Hand raised birds make wonderful pets, especially for seniors, children, or special needs persons as they are great companions. Idealy purchase a bird that is the oposite sex as you (or the intended owner). Our birds are taken from the nest at approximately 2 weeks old and for the next month or two we spoon feed them several times a day. They begin to feather up and enjoy play time and bathing. They get accustomed to handling and interacting with humans. Once they are confidently eating on their own, they can be sold on to their forever homes. We will clip their wings prior to delivery however we strongly suggest purchasing a flight harness (idealy ones that are strapped to the birds chest not the ones tied to the leg) as even loyal birds that have been with their humans for years, can fly away and harnesses also enable your bird to do what it was always meant to do- fly. Lots of interaction with your bird is essential aas is a suitably sized cage where the bird has lots of toys to play with, feeders for foraging, and ultimately plenty of room to move. A nest box may also be supplied for the bird to sleep in at night or when the temperatures are cooler.
Sometimes we may have several clutches and not all of the chicks are sold on as hand birds. The remaining feathery friends become aviary birds and remain very friendly and easy to manage which helps when feeding or installing new perches etc.. in cages.
